Indians tied 9th at Youth Olympics

Indian duo Feroz Garewal and Aditi Ashok retained their 9th position on the leader board at Zhongshan International Golf Club after shooting a par round of 72 on second day of foursome Mixed Team event

August 25, 2014: Indian duo Feroz Garewal and Aditi Ashok retained their 9th position on the leaderboard at Zhongshan International Golf Club after shooting a par round of 72 on second day of foursome Mixed Team event at the Youth Olympic in Nanjing.

 

Indian team had scored 66 in their opening round to position themselves ninth among thirty teams .They remain eight shots behind the leaders at the end of two rounds.

 

Meanwhile, Danish team of Pultz Pinnerup Axelsen and Pedersen Emily Kristine shot second consecutive seven under 65 to capture lead in the team event after two rounds. Overnight leaders from Korea, Youm Eun Ho and Lee Soyoung share the second place with Sweden’s Kinhult Marcus and Storm Linnea. Swede scored five under 65 to match the scores with first round leaders, who posted 71 in the second round. The two teams stay two shots behind the Danish team.

 

Third round of individual play will be the final round of the mixed team event played on Tuesday.

 

India qualified one team of two athletes based on the IGF Combined World Amateur Gold Rankings. Feroz Garewal, 17 is the leader in the Indian Golf Union Order of Merit in Category A and B combined and Aditi Ashok is the Winner of Asia Pacific Trophy at the Junior Open at the West Lancashire Golf Club.

 

Feroz finished tied fifth in the individual event that concluded last Thursday. While, Aditi closed at 11th place among women category.

 

The Youth Olympic Games marks golf’s return to the stable of Olympic sports. Golf was an Olympic sport in only two Games – 1900 and 1904 – and in 2009, the International Olympic Committee decided to reinstate the sport for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
