Golfer Shiv Kapur and wife Maya all set for parenthood

These are happy times in the world of golfer Shiv Kapur. After years of struggle with injury and loss of form, the 35-year-old from Delhi has rediscovered his winning touch this season. Shiv is also in a happy space on the personal front, having married his longtime friend Maya last year. The two are expecting their first child in the next few weeks adding to their basket of joy.

RETURNING TO FORM

After wooing the world with his exploits on the Asian Tour in 2005 and some good results in 2013, this is one of the best seasons of his career. In winning the Yeangder International over a tough field and following that result with a T2 in Thailand, Shiv found some of his best golf.

THE OPEN

The result in Woburn, where a world class field competed for spots at the 146th Open Championship, underlined Shiv’s ability to hold his own against the best of men. Shiv finished at the top of the final qualifying event, trumping Ian Poulter by two strokes.

The missed cut at the Open was by a fine margin of a single stroke under testing weather conditions. But clearly, Shiv is eager to work his way back to the European Tour and it shall not be long before we see him again flying the flag high for India.

DADDYHOOD

The arrival of his new born child should help to energise the spirits of Shiv in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see the golfer from Delhi through this new phase in his life with the joys of parenting adding to his form around the fairways.

Shiv is currently ranked 311th in the world, which means he will need a stretch a good results to push inside the top 100. The golfer is taking a month off to enjoy the treasures of fatherhood before returning to the tour at the end of August.
