IGU Chief on the future of golf in India

April 25, 2015: At the recently concluded trade show conducted by the Indian Golf Industry Association, Golfing Indian’s Shubhangini Arora caught up with the president of the Indian Golf Union, Jaydeep Chitlangia. We spoke with him about the state of the game in India and the key role played by the IGU in promoting the game at the grass root level.

 

The IGU has been the primary breeding ground for golf in the country. What are your thoughts on the role of IGU in nurturing golf in India?
IGU plays an extremely important role for the growth of the game. We take care of training programmes and initiate young children into the game, run various coaching camps and we run tournaments at the junior and sub-junior level to build the competitive edge. We also try and train our coaches so that they can take care of these youngsters.

 
Golf is on the verge of a major breakthrough in India. What do you think is the need of the hour to ensure that the game does not lose momentum?
The need of the hour in the country is to build more public courses, where larger number of golfers or players or citizens of India have more access, so they can play the game unhindered. Today what
