Saaniya Sharma on her big win at Coimbatore

Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma made her first win in the last three years with a spectacular performance at Coimbatore Golf Course. She has been dealing with injuries and been struggling to get back into the winning game. But on a hot Friday afternoon last week, she sealed her first win of the season in the 13th leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour. Here’s her exclusive interview with golfingindian.com

Q. Saaniya Congratulations. How does it feel – with this win is a big one off your back?
Saaniya: It was great to have finally won after so long. I was waiting for this win which was long overdue.
Q. According to you what changed this weekend. What’s been keeping you in form?
S: I worked very hard this summer with proper discipline and a routine at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy in Florida and a pep talk from Jesse (Grewal) Sir before the events kept me going.

Q. What was the key piece of your win this time?
S: I kept calm and went out there to just play good golf and come back with good scores.

Q. How have you touched up on the game?
S: I worked on my strengths and worked harder on my weak points. I had a pair of eyes on me throughout which helped me focus on the right things.

Q. What does the rest of the year look like?

S: I am looking forward to having an exciting second half of the year.The plan is to continue the routine and play in a few big events .

Q. How has practise on overseas courses helped?

S: At the academy we played 5 times a week and played on a lot of offsite courses. It gave me the exposure to play in different conditions and various set ups which helped me learn good course management.
