31 December 2017: Vani Kapoor spent her year trying to consolidate ground on the Ladies European Tour. In her first full year on the LET, Vani underlined her potential with a top ten finish in the Hero Women’s Indian Open. She also played on the WGAI HWPGT – where Vani won four of the six events she entered this season.

As she looks ahead to 2018, Vani is looking for a stronger performance on the European circuit in an effort to cement her place in international golf.

“2017 has been a great year. I had only one aim to keep my LET Card,” said Vani. “As a rookie we don’t get many starts in tournaments and also many tournaments had been cancelled this year. But besides all this I am glad I could retain my card.”

Vani drew in plenty of experience, playing nine events on the LET in 2017. “I would dedicate this year to a lot of learnings on tour. The first year is always difficult in terms of getting used to the climate, Wind, atmosphere, the pressure and adjusting to all these factors. I got to know myself better as a player.”
Vani was also candid about her final round woes at the Hero Women’s Indian Open, where she had a scent of victory before letting it slip away on Sunday.
“I did not have a great finish till the Indian Open where I finished tied 6th. This was my best finish and my first top 10! I was very glad the way I played that week and did falter under pressure. I did better than I actually expected myself too.”
But the 23 year old Indian was eager to stay positive and looked ahead to 2018 with hope.
“On the Indian Tour I managed to play 6 tournaments and won 4 out of them. I was very happy with my performance in India as well,” added Vani.
This year has helped me understand a lot about the game. The importance of being in the present and mastering over little parts of our game which actually make a huge impact.  I am all charged up for a better 2018.”
The diminutive young lady is a purposeful golfer with her eyes set on the prize. Nothing but a win will satisfy her and with the Olympics round the corner, there should be plenty of motivation for Vani to try and rise up the order.
