Oct 4, 2017: American Julian Suri has been named the Hilton European Tour Golfer of the Month for August after claiming his maiden European Tour title in impressive fashion at Made in Denmark.

The 26 year old completed his meteoric rise through the European ranks after he stormed to a four-stroke win at Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort courtesy of a spectacular final round 64, just three months after claiming his first title on the Challenge Tour.

His remarkable performance on the last day in Denmark included five birdies on the front nine followed by two more on the way home for a flawless seven under round, giving him a 19 under total, with David Horsey of England the closest contender on 15 under.

The win further enhanced Suri’s reputation as a rising superstar, having got off to a flying start to his career in Europe. After making the cut at all five Challenge Tour events he played in the second half of 2016, the Floridian began the 2017 campaign with a top 15 finish on the European Tour, in the Australian PGA Championship.

He followed that with a runner-up finish at the dual-ranking Open de Portugal at Morgado Golf Resort in May before earning a first Challenge Tour title at the D+D REAL Czech Challenge two weeks later. In 17 appearances this season between both tours, Suri has missed just two cuts and sits in 67th place in the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex having played just ten events.

Suri becomes the first American winner of the Hilton European Tour Golfer of the Month – which is decided each month by a panel of golf journalists – in 2017, and will receive an automatic upgrade to Hilton Honors Diamond Status, Hilton’s award winning loyalty program.

“I am delighted to be named the Hilton European Tour Golfer of the Month for August,” said the New York born player.

“It’s been a crazy year for me and everything has happened so quickly. To win on the European Tour was a dream come true and it was incredible to do it at such a great tournament as Made in Denmark.

“I’m really looking forward to the end of the season now and I have high expectations of myself so hopefully this won’t be the last Golfer of the Month Award I pick up.”

Suri beat Italian Francesco Molinari, as well as his American compatriot Patrick Reed, to the award after the pair shared second place with Louis Oostuizen in the final Major Championship of the year, the USPGA Championship – where Justin Thomas emerged victorious.

Hans Ruggenberg of De Telegraaf: “Julian Suri is a deserving winner of the August award following his incredible win in front of huge crowds at Himmerland in Denmark. He showed the composure and confidence of a seasoned professional on the final day and proved why many people are speaking of him as a real future prospect.

“The nature of his victory was enough for our panel to vote him as the Hilton European Tour Golfer of the Month, although it was certainly a tough decision. Francesco Molinari and Patrick Reed were so impressive on the final day of the USPGA Championship and were only outdone by the class of Justin Thomas, while we must give an honourable mention to Adrian Otaegui and Jason Norris after both claiming their first respective European Tour wins in August.”

Hilton, the Official Hotel Supplier to the European Tour, is the Official Sponsor of the Hilton European Tour Golfer of the Month award, which recognises and rewards the best performances of European Tour members each month.
