29 July 2018: Ace allrounder Kapil Dev is all set to represent India in the Asia Pacific Senior Championship at Miyazaki this October. The former Indian cricket captain earned his spot with a stellar performance in the All India Seniors Golf Championship held at Jaypee Greens in Noida earlier this month.

Kapil made scores of 73-77-77 to finish in second place, four strokes behind the winner Rishi Narain. The 1982 Asian Games gold medallist posted a 7-over score of 223 over three rounds, in the 55-60 year category.

The Haryana allrounder will be representing India in a senior golf championship for the second time. Kapil was also on the team in the 2015 championship.

“I have always enjoyed competing in sport and golf is a great test of skill, patience, clear thinking and selecting and judging the correct stroke to play. In seniors golf the US Professional Tour stages around 30 tournaments every year with Rs 10 crore prize money every tournament and then there are tours in Europe, Japan and Asia.

“Golf is a sport for a lifetime and if you are in good physical condition, you can be competitive even in your 60’s. I intend to enjoy competitive golf for many more years,” said the veteran cricketer.

Kapil took to golf soon after his retirement from international cricket in October 1994. He put Indian cricket in a new orbit by leading an unfancied team to the World Cup in 1983. Kapil’s Devils scored a memorable victory over the favourites West Indies in a low scoring final at Lords. It is considered one of the greatest feats in the annals of Indian sporting history.

The Indian team finished sixth in China, when Kapil last represented India in Qingdao. The tournament will be played this year at the Tom Watson Golf Club in Japan this October.
