May 30, 2015: Khalin Joshi is a young man in a hurry and it appears his bag of clubs are only too happy to play the tune of their master. The 22 year old demonstrated great maturity this week, especially over the final two rounds to seal his spot behind the runaway winner Mardan Mamat (66-67-68-69). Joshi shot 68 in the final round to tie for second with Soomin Lee at 12-under 272. Both men finished just two strokes behind the 47 year old Singaporean who dug deep to hold on to his advantage and clinch the Bangladesh Open title.

Starting the day three strokes behind the leader, Joshi had a turbulent run the first nine holes – bogeys at the 2nd and 8th an indication of the nerves that can grip a young golfer intoxicated by the scent of possible victory.

But birdies at the 1st, 4th, 7th and 9th hole also suggested that Joshi had the gumption of a champion with an eagerness to back himself under stress.

After making the turn in 33 shots, Joshi was standing shoulder to shoulder with Mamat and Lee in a group that was contending for the essential honours.

The young Indian failed to push forth from there, his putter just not giving him the tricks needed to overhaul a determined Mardan. Khalin made seven straight pars on the back nine before finishing with a flourishing birdie at the final hole to ensure he tied Lee at the very last moment.

“I’m disappointed with my result but not my game. To be honest, I expected to win. My putter let me down the whole week. If I putted better, I could have won this tournament,” lamented Khalin. “But Mardan got the better out of everybody. He played really well from tee to green. He is the rightful champion.”
