March 17, 2017: Local lad Kshitij Naved Kaul clinched The Delhi NCR Cup 2017 after a scintillating final round of four-under par 68 for a gross of two-under par 286 here at the prestigious Delhi Golf Club.

Overnight leader Zubin Nijhawan carded his second successive red digits with a round of one-under 71 but wasn’t enough to see him through as he finished at even-par 288 for the sole second spot. Kolkata’s Sunit Chowrasia finished in third place a distant five strokes behind at 293 tied with defending champion Yashas Chandra and halfway leader Simarjeet Singh.

The Delhi State Championship was won by Vinay Kumar Yadav who finished tied sixth overall at a score of eight-over 296 with Harimohan Singh. Md. Wazir took home the runners up trophy after a final round of two-under 70.

Kshitij still a teenager, clinched his second victory in consecutive weeks on the IGU Amateur Tour after his exploits at the Maharashtra Open last week at the Poona Club Golf Course. He began with a birdie and closed the overnight gap with Zubin to a solitary stroke.

With Zubin dropping three strokes on the 3rd and the 4th holes, Kshitij moved clear at the top by one at the turn. Further birdies on the 10th, 14th, 15th were matched by Zubin in equal measure before a crucial sand save on the 17th by Kshitij gave him the advantage going down the 18th. A fantastic second shot on the par 5 left Kshitij about 12ft from the pin and all but assured his victory which he duly closed out with a birdie.
