10 July 2021: On an eventful second day in the John Deere Classic, Luke List (-13) played some immaculate golf to climb the perch on the leaderboard. After posting 63 on Friday, he is one-stroke ahead of Sebastian Munoz (-12), who shot 67. The cut fell at 4-under 138, with 72 of the 155 golfers reaching the weekend rounds. Both Anirban Lahiri (71) and Arjun Atwal (69) made an early exit despite making a determined effort to stay afloat.

After conceding bogeys at the sixth and seventh holes, Anirban bounced back with birdie on the ninth and an eagle on the 10th hole. At one-under par, he still had work left to do. But a bogey at the 12th dropped him back to even and soon he ran out of holes to try and salvage his weekend. Anirban will need a better result next week in the Barbasol Championship in the midst of a thick battle for full status. He is currently 125th on the FedexCup rankings.

Atwal made two birdies on either side as he tried to force his way up the order. He made a satisfying 69, but it was just not enough to push him high enough. He closed the week at 2-under 140.

In his 193rd start on the PGA TOUR, List is hunting for a maiden victory. He made seven birdies in eight holes starting on the 13th after he went off the tenth tee. He shot a bogey free 63 and has made 15 birdies in the first two rounds.

List is not new to reaching the weekend with a lead or a share of it. On the three other occasions, List finished in second at the 2018 Honda Classic after a playoff loss to Justin Thomas, T5 in the 2017 CJ Cup and T14 in the 2016 RBC Canadian Open. He was also a runner-up in the 2016 Sanderson Farms Championship.

Munoz continued from his fluent 63 in the opening round, adding 67 to his card. He has made 32 of 36 greens in regulation. Only three golfers remain bogey free through two rounds – Jason Dufner, Brandon Hagy and Chez Reavie.

Adam Schenk, Chesson Hadley, Brandon Hagy, Chase Seiffert, Chez Reavie, Lucas Glover, Ryan Moore are all in T3 at 11-under through 36 holes.
