December 20: Order of Merit leader Gurbani Singh, fresh from her victory at the stroke play format, led an array of fancied names through to the match play quarter final rounds of the USHA All India Ladies Amateur Golf Championship 2013. Nikita Arjun probably pulled off the biggest upset of the day, a 2-1 score line accounting for Gursimar Badwal, currently ranked fifth on the Indian Golf Union (IGU) Ladies Amateur Golf Tour. Nikita is 24th on the same list.

Also, in a mini upset of sorts, Gaurika Bishnoi placed 11th in the Order of Merit took out 10th ranked Seher Atwal in a grueling match up, to set up a quarter-final encounter with fancied Aditi Ashok of Bangalore. The score line eventually in Gaurika’s favour stood at a thrilling 7-6. Another fancied name to take her designated place in the quarters included Gauri Monga who came through 3-2 in what could have been a potentially tricky encounter against Millie Saroha. Ridhima Dilawari, Amandeep Drall and Astha Madan completed the quarter final line up.

The quarter finals are sure to throw up even more interesting match ups as the competition now gets stiffer with players of more equal abilities lining up against each other.
