May 5, 2016: A power-packed line-up of stars, which consists of 25 Asian Tour winners, will headline the second edition of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open which gets underway from May 12 to 15 next week.

Filipino Miguel Tabuena, Korea’s Soomin Lee and Australian Scott Hend, placed second, third and fifth on the current Order of Merit, will spearhead the Asian Tour charge at the €1 million (approximately US$1.09 million) event at the Four Season Golf Club Mauritius in Anahita.

Singaporean veteran Mardan Mamat, who finished third in the last edition, will also feature alongside Chapchai Nirat of Thailand, Indian duo Jeev Milkha Singh and Rahil Gangjee in what is the first tri-sanctioned event by the Asian, European and Sunshine Tours.

Also in the fray are Mithun Perera of Sri Lanka, Siddikur Rahman of Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei’s Lu Wei-chih, as well as Thai duo Danthai Boonma and Natipong Srithong, who will be making their debut appearances at the world renowned holiday isle.

Young talents Jeunghun Wang of Korea, American Paul Peterson, Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond, Chinese Taipei’s Hung Chien-yao and Lee Chieh-po will also be chasing for their breakthroughs on the Asian Tour when they head to the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.

Perera, who made only two cuts in seven starts this season, is determined to turn his lacklustre season around with a good showing in Mauritius.

“The season hasn’t been good so far but I feel my game is getting better. I am getting more distance with my new set of irons and with my driving accuracy, I am confident of performing well next week. Mauritius is a very nice place and I look forward to going back there,” said the 29-year-old Sri Lankan.

Lee, who finished inside top-60 on the Order of Merit in his rookie season in 2015, is excited to make his much-anticipated debut at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open next week.

“I am really looking forward to this event as it’s my first time there. I am expecting the course to be very windy as it is surrounded by a couple of beaches. It’s going to be an advantage for me as it’s similar to the playing conditions back home. I am prepared to tackle this kind of condition,” said the 21-year-old Lee from Chinese Taipei.

Asian Tour members Bryce Easton of South Africa and Scott Vincent of Zimbabwe, who came through the qualifier last week, will also head to the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open alongside young Thai talent Phachara Khongwatmai and Richard T. Lee of Canada.

A host of stars from the European Tour and the Sunshine Tour, including defending champion George Coetzee of South Africa, China’s Li Haotong and Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium, is also expected to put up a stiff challenge when the tournament gets underway next week.
