February 19, 2016: At the end of an incomplete first round, Anirban Lahiri was one over through 16 holes when play was suspended due to darkness. Jordan Spieth suffered his worst ever opening round, signing on an eight over 79 laced with a liberal sprinkling of bogeys. Spaniard Camilo Villegas shot a superb 63 to end the first day with a three-shot cushion over Chez Reavie, Bubba Watson and Luke List. Rory McIlroy is also right in the mix after a solid 67 in the first round.

Lahiri started on the 10th hole and went one under quickly when he made birdie at his second hole, the par-5 11th. But bogeys at 12 and 15 slipped him over par as he took 37 shots to get past the turn.

Playing measured golf, Lahiri tried to work his way back and a birdie at the par-3 fourth hole helped him get even with the course. But he dropped a shot at the seventh hole, before poor light forced a suspension of play.

Lahiri will complete his round early on Friday before starting his second round, later in the day. He will need to make significant improvements to try and make an impression on the Riviera Country Club course. Lahiri made just 37.50% greens in regulation and his 50% driving accuracy only compounded his problems on an erratic day on the course.

Spieth will need a monumental effort on Friday to avoid missing the cut. The two-time major champion was two over through six holes, before correcting course with a birdie at the 7th hole. But back to back bogeys at 8 & 9 slipped him to three over at the turn.

Spieth made birdie at the 10th but four bogeys in five holes starting at the 12th saw him sliding perilously down the leader board. He ended his round with a double-bogey six at the 18th to round off one of his worst rounds in recent times.

Villegas enjoyed a nearly flawless day as he raced into a commanding lead soon as he started. The Spaniard made nine birdies, including four in a row from the fifth hole in a spectacular 8-under score of 63
