April 17, 2015. Vice Chairman of HeroMoto Corp, Pawan Munjal was recognised for his contribution to golf at the India Golf Expo held in Gurgaon, Haryana. Munjal has been instrumental in shaping the golf scene in the country and continues to support and sponsor some of the key professional golf tournaments including the tri-sanctioned marquee event Hero Indian Open. He revived the women’s golf movement in the country and is the main sponsor of the pro women’s tour in the country today.

An avid golfer himself, Munjal’s been helping grow the sport in India for over two decades. While most Indian corporations chase cricket as their brand extension, Munjal has single-handedly picked games like golf, hockey and soccer to boost their popularity. In an already cricket crazy nation, such timely and crucial support to other sports is not only appreciated but is essential for their survival and spread.

World number 35 Anirban Lahiri, who recently played the Masters is among the ambassadors of HeroMoto Corp and the company recently also roped it Tiger Woods as its global corporate partner. Hero now sponsors the Hero World Challenge on the PGA Tour. In a historic move, Munjal arranged for Tiger Woods to come and play at the Delhi Golf Club for an exhibition round in February 2014 with some of top Indian pros, corporate big-wigs and media personalities. The event saw many junior budding golfers in attendance.

Mr. Munjal is the past Chairman of the Asian PGA Tour Board of Directors and the past President of Professional Golfers Association of India (PGAI).

Under his guidance, Hero MotoCorp launched the Hero Indian Sports Academy (HISA) in collaboration with Laureus Foundation to provide equal opportunities in sports to various communities and to reward talent in the country.
