April 26, 2014: Bangalore’s S Chikkarangappa clinched Surya Nepal Masters in a tough fought playoff with Shankar Das of Kolkata. This is first pro victory for 20-year-old. Chikka shot fifteen-under 273 ( 69-65-67-72)in four rounds at Gokarna Forest Resorts.
Chikka, who entered the final round as club house leader with three shot lead over Lohan, shot a 72 in the final round to equal scores with Shankar Das, who carded four-under 68 on Saturday to enter a Playoff . Despite making best score of the day, Das could not manage a upper hand in Play off and finished runners up in Rs 30,00, 000 event.
Abhijit Singh Chaddha and Abhinav Lohan finished the final round as tied 3rd with 14 under.
“Chikka” means small in Kannada, the mother tongue of the 20-year-old Chikkarangappa S and the word gels with his build. However, in a short professional career, spanning just over a year and a half, Chikka has had big achievements on the Indian Professional Circuit after finishing second on the PGTI Order of Merit in 2013. This is Chikkarangappa’s fifth event as pro, earlier he was tied 14t in Ahmadabad Masters and finished tied 7th in PGTI Players Championship in Coimbatore. In Cochin early this month, Chikka ended at 24th place.
