Saaniya Sharma wins the 13th leg of the Hero Women's Professional Golf Tour

August 07, 2015: Helped by a late flurry of birdies, Saaniya Sharma carded an even par 72 on the final day to win the 13th leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2015 at the Coimbatore Golf Club here on Friday. She finished her campaign with a total score of 220 to clinch her first title of the season, also her first since 2011-2012. Vani Kapoor finished second with a total score of 225 at the INR 5,00,000 event. (Latest Golf News)

Saaniya refrained from taking risks in challenging conditions and played a birdie-less front nine with a lone bogey on the 7th hole. However, she had a slight lapse in concentration and carded two bogies on the 10th and 11th holes. Thereafter, the Chandigarh pro composed herself and fired four consecutive birdies on the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th holes. Another dropped shot on the 17th hole could not prevent her from registering a five shot victory over Vani Kapoor.

Hero Order of Merit leader Vani Kapoor had an off day in the field and carded four bogies on the 4th, 6th, 7th and 8th holes, with a lone birdie on the 9th in her front nine. However, the youngster from Delhi played much better in the back nine, dropping just two shots on the 12th and 17th holes along with a birdie on the 11th. She finished her round with a score of 4 over 76 to take the second spot. This is Vani’s sixth runners up finish and she also has four victories to her name.

Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi played aggressively and carded four birdies on the 4th, 9th, 11th and 18th holes. However, bogies on the 6th, 7th, 10th and 15th holes along with a triple on the 3rd hole undid her good word and she had to be content with a third place finish, with a total score of 228 after 54 holes. Her effort of 3 over 75 on the final day helped her finish ahead of Amadeep Drall who finished fourth.

Panchkula’s Amandeep Drall struggled to stitch together a series of consistent shots and carded 5 over 77 in the final round. Her error prone round included six bogies on the 2nd, 4th, 13th, 16th, 17th and 18th holes, with a lone birdie on the 5th. She finished with a total score of 230 after the final round.

Pune’s Shweta Galande finished fifth with a total score of 231. She played a birdie-less round with five bogies on the 3rd, 4th, 6th, 12thand 14th holes to card 5 over 77 in the final round. She is followed by Delhi’s Ankita Tiwana in sixth place with a total score of 237. Jaipur’s Afshan Fatima finished seventh at 243, followed by Delhi’s Mehar Atwal in eighth position at 246.

From the beautiful city of Coimbatore, the Tour now moves to the picturesque Clover Greens, Tamil Nadu for the 14th Leg to be played from 11th to 14th August.
