Nov 03, 2018: Bengaluru-born Chikkarangappa S. of India fired the day’s best score of six-under-66 to move into a share of the halfway lead alongside Chandigarh-based teenager Karandeep Kochhar at the Jeev Milkha Singh Invitational 2018 presented by TAKE Solutions on Friday.

Kochhar kept the local hopes alive by carding a 70 to tie with Chikkarangappa for the lead with the two-day total of eight-under-par 136  at the Chandigarh Golf Club.

Chikka said, “I wasn’t swinging it well for some time but I feel that changed last week at the Panasonic Open India where I finished in the top-20 after shooting four under-par rounds at the Delhi Golf Club for the first time. I’m shaping the ball more consistently now.

“I haven’t made too many putts so far this week as I’ve not been able to read the greens. My good wedge shots set up a few birdies for me today.”

Former Asia number one Jyoti Randhawa made major gains with a 68 that placed him third, just one off the lead, at 137.

First one leader Shiv Kapur, who matched the course record with his 65 on Thursday, slipped to tied 10th as his second round effort of 75 took his total to 140.

Tournament host and local favourite Singh missed the cut as he followed up his first round 77 with a 73 to  make his early exit with his 150 total.

Singh is the first player in the history of Indian golf to play host this week. He is only one of the few Asian Tour greats have assumed responsibility of tournament host, including Korea’s KJ Choi with the CJ Invitational, Thailand’s Boonchu Ruangkit with the Boonchu Ruangkit Championship and countrymen Thongchai Jaidee with the Thongchai Jaidee Foundation.

Reigning Asian Tour number one Gavin Green of Malaysia, also received the honor of hosting the Gavin Green Junior Amateur 2018, that gets underway in December.
