If you thought Dhoni’s making headlines only for his mohawk-style hair do, think again. Looks like the Captain was in mood for some serious change. He was even seen trying out a new sport. Welcome to GOLF, Mahi! Wearing a pair of khaki shorts and a white t-shirt, he was comfortable under the sun.

Dhoni Golf 2 Dhoni enjoyed a round of golf at the Jack Nicklaus property, the ITC Golf Resort outside of Delhi. He was all gloved up, and used to being wicket keeper Dhoni preferred to wear gloves in both hands while playing golf too. Although it’s not wrong to do so, there are just a handful of golfers who choose to wear gloves for both left and right hand while golfing and it’s more prevalent among women pros from Japan and South East Asia.

Ball-club connect is never hard for cricketers. According to sources, the swashbuckling cricketer spent time playing golf with his friends. Sources say this was the fourth time he picked up the golf club and the fact he is coming back to it, means he is interested. He was mostly left to himself as any player is while they are trying out golf. Wouldn’t it be hard to focus otherwise? And in addition golf can be quite a hard game to master.

Given the slew of cricketers showing interest in golf, looks like Dhoni is the latest to join the bandwagon of Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, Ajay Jadeja, Dean Jones and even Mahela Jayawardhene.

Jayawardhene in an earlier interview to GolfingIndian.com had admitted how golf helps in breaking the boredom and allows cricketers to explore something different from their practise sessions. “Those who are travelling always find this a new sport to explore,” he had said.

Young women’s pro golfer Priya Puri who was excited to see him on her home turf, the ITC Resort said she was impressed. “Well he has recently started golf and for someone who has just started he is playing very well.” Like most cricketers Dhoni’s drive is pretty solid but given that he has become world famous for a helicopter shot in cricket, his attempt to drive the golf ball too has been superb. “He is indeed a long hitter as expected. Considering the power he has when he hits 6s.”

Did the Indian skipper play to unwind or just learn a new sport? Is playing golf a sign that the team leader is satisfied and content to focus on other good things in life as his team is in full control? With Virat Kohli, Shikar Dhawan and the rest of the young brigade looking strongly poised to bat for the country’s favourite game. Dhoni like all seniors is clearly exploring other sports to secure his future plans- with or without cricket.
