Shaaban dreaming to set up an academy to return to professional golf

Asian Tour Release

June 1, 2016: Shaaban Hussin hopes to return to professional golf and set up an academy to help junior golfers after being involved in an accident which forced doctors to amputate his left leg two months ago.

Shaaban is not giving up on professional golf yet, “I want to play again … golf is in my blood. And I hope to have an academy to teach youngsters to be proficient in the sport,” said Shaaban.

“Playing golf is no longer expensive. Golf equipment is quite affordable now. One need not be a club member to use the golf course. They can just walk-in,” he added.

The 36-year-old Shaaban is receiving treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital after crashing his high-powered motorcycle at the Guthrie Expressway. Asian Tour Commissioner Kyi Hla Han visited Shaaban on Monday with PGM Tour Chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji.

“We didn’t ask for accidents to happen. Initially I could not accept it, but I consider myself lucky after seeing the other patients in the hospital. I want to lead a normal life again,” he said.

Shaaban is expected to be discharged from HKL soon. He will rest at home for a week before continuing with his rehabilitation at the Cheras Hospital.
