The 27 year old star from Bengaluru is an iconic athlete with an undying lust for success on the professional circuit. Earlier this year, Sharmila became the first Indian golfer to qualify for the China LPGA Tour.

1. Yoga, meditation and two hour workouts in the gym are all in a day’s work for this committed golfer. Sharmila takes her fitness very seriously, so much so that she is reputed to be among the fittest golfers in Asia.
2. Sharmila takes her golf lessons in the USA. She trains at the Gary Gilchrist Academy in Clermont, New York.
3. Sharmila understands that golf isn’t only about a sharp body. Apart from regular meditation, she also works with specialists to sharpen her mind.
4. Sharmila is also a polyglot. She is fluent in English, French, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Urdu. Breathe easy now.

   

5. The 27 year old has been playing golf for 16 years now. She won her first golf tournament as a precociously talented 14 year old, by a whopping 15 stroke margin.
6. But winning wasn’t really new to her as a child. Sharmila collected a haul of 72 medals in state and national level swimming competitions before turning her attention to professional golf.
7. Sharmila is mad about dogs, cars and dabbles occasionally with a camera in her hand. She is understood to possess seven sweet dogs at her home.
8. The sultry siren has Franco-Indian heritage. Her father Marc is a software professional while her mother Surekha is a perfumer. She runs Padmini Aroma Ltd, a perfume company based in Bengaluru.
9. Sharmila represented India in the Asian Games at Doha in 2006. She was the WGAI’s Order of Merit winner in 2009-10.
10. Sharmila considers Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy her heroes in golf and draws inspiration from their feats on the professional tour.
