August 27, 2013.There was much expectation from in-form and recent winner veteran golfer Smriti Mehra as she set out for 9th leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2013 in Bangalore. And she delivered. With a first round of 64, Simi as she is popularly known has made a seriously strong start. Just behind is Shweta Galande with a 66. Shrandhanjali Singh and Aditi Ashok also played well to be tied for third with a 68.
Sharmila Nicollet who has returned on tour after nursing her injury had a brilliant comeback with two eagles. The long hitter Bangalorean is familiar with Clover Greens, the venue for the tournament in the city. She posted her first eagle on par five 7th hole and then another one in the backnine on the par four 10th.
Simi couldn’t have had a stronger start as she got an eagle on the very first par three hole. She followed up with birdies on 7th, 10th, 12th, 14th and rounded it up in style with another birdie on 18th. She is currently ranked second in the Hero Order of Merit with total earnings of INR 5, 85, 000 with three wins to her credit.
Shweta Galande deserves special mention as she had a strong start and has been showing consistency in play. She scored a birdie on the par three fourth hole and followed up with a series of them in the back nine
Current Hero Order of Merit leader Neha Tripathi posted a not so impressive round of 76. Neha has four wins including three consecutive wins with total earnings of INR 7,05,000 this season to her credit.
There are another five games, of total fourteen, to look forward to at Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2013.
