Coorg, 16th September 2014: Riding on her victory at Clover Greens, veteran Smriti Mehra and youngster Vani Kapoor start as firm favorites at the Hero-CGL Women’s Professional Golf Championship, Coorg. The INR 5,00,000 event will see 10 professional golfers fighting it out for the top honors at the picturesque Coorg Golf Links. Smriti Mehra gave one of the most dominant performances in the current season to win with an eight stroke margin over Hero Order of Merit Leader Vani Kapoor. However the Delhi youngster has had a dream run thus far with five victories and four runners up finishes and would like to regain lost ground. (Latest Golf News)

Vani, who currently leads the Hero Order of Merit with total earnings of INR 10, 41, 600 from 10 appearances would like to consolidate her position at the top of the money list. Smriti who is currently placed 4th in the Hero Order of Merit with total earnings of INR 5, 64, 400 from seven appearances with two victories, will be eager to keep the momentum going after a convincing victory in the 10th Leg. However, these two golfers will face stiff competition from Kolkata’s Neha Tripathi and Pune golfer Shweta Galande.

Neha, currently placed second in the Hero Order of Merit with total earnings of INR 6, 66,000, hasn’t had the best of seasons and has faltered at key moments. Shweta Galande’s season has also seen a similar script. She has been guilty of throwing away the early lead on multiple occasions. Both golfers would like to correct this with a strong performance at the event which starts on 17th September and will culminate on the 19th. Delhi’s Ankita Tiwana and Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma are other golfers to watch out for in the absence of Hero MotoCorp sponsored Bengaluru golfer Sharmila Nicollet who is nursing an injury.

Coorg Golf Links is a stunning 18 hole course amidst the beautiful valleys of the western ghats in the Brahmgiri range, and the coffee plantation area of Coorg. This scenic course is all set to test the physical and mental strength of the golfers. The Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2014 comprises a total of fifteen legs spanning across key locations in India.
