SSP Chawrasia is on a high since learning of his Arjuna Award

25 August 2017: SSP Chawrasia continued his impressive run of golf in the European Tour’s Made in Denmark event, producing a spotless card for the second day running. The Kolkata golfer seems to have found a new level, fueled by the joy of winning the Arjuna Award a few days ago. At the time of publishing this report, Chawrasia rode scores of 67 and 68 to climb into a tie for second position. Marc Warren surged up a massive seventy spots with a brilliant 64 to join three others in T2. Steve Webster was the man in front, retaining a one shot lead despite managing only a 70 on Friday.

Chawrasia scored four birdies in the first round, including three on his way to the clubhouse in the first round score of 67.

On Friday, he picked up right where he left it on Thursday, starting on the tenth with seven straight pars, before going to five with a birdie at the 17th hole.

Chawrasia added two birdies on his second nine – at the par-4 third hole and the par-5 seventh hole for another fine effort at the Himmerland Golf and Spa Resort in Farso, Denmark.

The 39 year old from India is ranked 222nd in the world and considers victory in Europe one of his most cherished dreams. If he continues playing the way he has over the first two days, the icing could be on his happy cake at dusk on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Gaganjeet Bhullar was scripting a nearly miraculous escape, that wasn’t to be. The 29 year old from Punjab scripted an exceptional recovery after suffering an inexplicable ten at the par-5 eleventh hole on Thursday.

Gaganjeet also scored four birdies in a topsy turvy first round, but two other bogeys meant that he had given away the course as many as seven strokes. He ended the bruising day of golf with a three over score of 74.

Starting, like Chawrasia, from the tenth hole on Friday, Gaganjeet played some resolute golf to mend his card and push his way into the weekend.

Birdie at 10 and 14 set the tone for Bhullar, as he looked to rescue himself from his overnight position of T127. But a hat-trick of bogeys from the 15th hole threatened to destroy any hopes of staying on for the weekend.

The resolute warrior showed plenty of gumption though, as he steadied the cart with three straight pars before mounting an all-out assault on the resort course.

A birdie at the third was followed quickly by an eagle at the par-5 fourth. His fifth birdie of the round, at another par-5, the seventh hole helped him reach the clubhouse in 33 strokes.

Gaganjeet’s third round score of two under 69 lifted him into a tied 74th position. A 36 hole score of one over 143 left him just beneath the projected cut line.
