Panasonic Open: Shiv leads Indians

September 25, 2013. Shiv Kapur along with five compatriots will lead India’s challenge at the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open, which tees off at the Ibaraki Country Club on Thursday.

 

Indians are likely to put up some great show as last two champions at the event has been from India. Defending champion Digvijay Singh will try to maintain his record, while 2011 winner Anirban Lahiri would wrestle for another one. Seasoned Jyoti Randhawa, young talents Himmat Rai and C Muniyappa with one Asian Tour win each will try to do their best.

 

[highlight] The next in line for the top-10 rankers on Asian tour would be a chance to qualify for the CIMB Classic in Malaysia, an event that is jointly sanctioned by the Asian and US PGA Tours. [/highlight]

The tournament is important in terms of prize money of Yen 150 million (approx. USD 1.48) and also that the players will get an opportunity to get a place among top-10 of the Asian Tour Order of Merit.

 

The next in line for the top-10 on Asian Tour would be a chance to qualify for the CIMB Classic in Malaysia, an event that is jointly sanctioned by the Asian and US PGA Tours.

 

Current rankings of Indians on the Asian Tour Order of merit include Gaganjeet Bhullar (second), Anirban Lahiri (seventh) and Shiv Kapur (ninth).

 

Gaganjeet Bhullar is not playing in Japan this week; he has opted to tee up at the Dunhill Championships in Scotland on European Tour.

 

The top-two on Order of Merit also qualify for the USD eight million WGC-HSBC Champions event in China.

 

It is expected to be a big week for Lahiri, as a victory here will put him in firm position to qualify for the WGC-HSBC Champions in China.
