May 23, 2017: USHA International, one of India’s leading consumer durable company, is the first company to promote Ultimate in India. Taking forward this strong commitment, USHA announced ‘Udaan 2017’ in association with Hyderabad Ultimate and Teach for India (TFI). The tournament was a part of ongoing UPAI (Ultimate Players Association of India) Regional Challenger Series.
Team Slipdisc from Bangalore emerged victorious and lifted the Usha Udaan 2017 trophy. Team Storm Chasers from Mumbai won the Spirit of the Game award. Teach for India Team Goosebumps from Hyderabad also participated in the tournament.
Usha Udaan 2017 was a two day tournament slated between May 20 & 21, 2017 and took place at Saraswathi Cricket Ground, Gundlapochampalli. A total of 9 teams and 160 players from Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai and Pune participated in the tournament.
Speaking about the event, Ms. Komal Mehra, Events Head, Usha International said, “Usha’s collaboration with Ultimate in India is a part of our larger effort in promoting sports, health and active lifestyle among people. We have been supporting this game in India for the last five years and have conducted Ultimate Frisbee tournaments in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Goa, Ahmedabad and Surat. Our aim is to provide opportunities to train and develop young talent and promote Ultimate Frisbee at grassroots level.”
Ultimate is perhaps the only sport in which men and women can play together on the same team and is self-refereed by players thus promoting the spirit of the game, efficient communication, coordination, alignment and team building among the players. It is high intensity, and exciting sport that enhances stamina, agility and is super fun- all the things for healthy and active lifestyle.
Ultimate has been gaining huge popularity in India. Last year, India sent 4 teams to compete at the World’s Ultimate and Guts Championship (WUGC) 2016 in different categories – Men’s Open, Women’s Open, Mixed and Masters. USHA has always been supportive of numerous sporting initiatives in the country like Ultimate Flying Disc, IPL, Football, Marathon, Ladies Amateur and Junior Golf, and Cricket for deaf.
