Hero challenge field confirmed

July 10, 2018: American star Charley Hoffman, local favourite Richie Ramsay and Ryder Cup hero Ian Poulter will complete the field for the latest and most spectacular edition of the Hero Challenge, when the European Tour’s fast and fun night golf contest arrives at Edinburgh Castle on Tuesday July 10, 2018.

The trio will join defending Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open champion Rafa Cabrera Bello, four-time American Ryder Cup player Matt Kuchar and Indian golf’s latest star Shubhankar Sharma to tee it up in the stunning surroundings of the world-famous visitor attraction, and fans can register for FREE tickets at http://et.golf/Hero-Challenge

The six players will battle it out in the unique contest on the castle esplanade in the centre of Scotland’s capital city, just two days before they take to the links at Gullane Golf Club to compete in the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open from July 12-15, 2018.

A successful debut for the Hero Challenge at the British Masters supported by Sky Sports in 2016 was followed by three thrilling editions last year at the British Masters, Scottish Open and DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, as Hero MotoCorp Ltd – the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles and scooters – reaffirmed its commitment to innovation on the European Tour.

In 2018 the drama of the night golf contest will be increased further as a series of iconic city locations perform hosting duties, starting at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo’s extraordinary amphitheatre in front of Edinburgh Castle – a key part of the Edinburgh World Heritage Site.

Four-time PGA Tour winner Hoffman is making his debut at Scotland’s national open next week. He said: “This is the first time I have played in the Scottish Open, and it’s definitely the first time I have teed it up in a castle, so it’s shaping up to be a fun week.”

Englishman Poulter – nicknamed “Mr Ryder Cup” for his fearsome performances in the biennial clash – is aiming to seal his 13th European Tour title in Gullane next week after the drama of the Hero Challenge. He said: “Now this is a different way to start tournament week. I loved taking part in the Hero Challenge in Dubai last year, but this location is going to make it even more exciting.”

Ramsay is aiming to get his homecoming off to a flying start in one of Scotland’s most recognisable sites. He said: “It’s always a pleasure to play in front of a home crowd, and to get the opportunity to play golf in one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks is something special.”

The Hero Challenge will take place from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm on Tuesday July 10 and will be shown live across the European Tour’s platforms. Free tickets to be there in person are available at http://et.golf/Hero-Challenge

The Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open once again takes its place as part of the Rolex Series – the premium category of tournaments on the European Tour’s Race to Dubai, each with a minimum prize fund of US$7million. Some of the world’s best golfers will tee it up in Gullane from July 12-15, including defending champion Cabrera Bello of Spain, 2015 champion Rickie Fowler, five-time Major winner Phil Mickelson, World Number Three and 2014 winner Justin Rose, and the 2016 Open Champion Henrik Stenson. Fans can buy tickets from just £15 at www.asiscottishopen.com
