May 29, 2014. Tiger Woods has decided to give the US Open at Pinehurst a miss, as he recuperates from a nerve surgery, reports his website Tigerwoods.com. “Unfortunately, I won’t be there because I’m not yet physically able to play competitive golf,” said Woods on his website this morning.

The last Championship that Woods played was the WGC Cadillac Championship that was held in March. The 14- time champion has missed five major championships and this would be the sixth no-show. Earlier this month, Woods had said that the decision about his participation would solely depend on his doctors. He had undergone microdiscectomy, a surgery to correct pinched nerves on the 31st of March. In 2011 also he had missed around four months of the season because of injuries on the knee and Achilles’ heel. However, this is the first time that due to health issues, he has had to give The Masters a miss.

It is still uncertain when Woods will make a comeback to the world of competitive golf. His inactivity has made him drop to number 3 in the World ranking below Adam Scott and Henrik Stenson. Over a week ago he had said that all he was able to do was light putting and chipping. He wrote on his website, “The U.S. Open is very important to me and I know it’s going to be a great week. Despite missing the first two Majors, and several other important tournaments, I remain very optimistic about this year and my future.” The other tournaments that Woods might have to miss this year are the British Open that will be held in July, the PGA Championships and the Ryder Cup tournament that will be held in September.
