Indian golf fans hoping to celebrate the fascinating play by some of the best international golfers and Indian stars from 7th to 13th November 2016.

There is an air of festivity around the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon. The air is thick with anticipation as some of the best golfers in the world make their way to the capital region for the Hero Women’s Indian Open.

The recent successes of Aditi Ashok and the efforts of Vani Kapoor, Amandeep Drall and their ilk have drawn attention to women’s golf in India. With the stage set for the prestigious event next week, here are ten quick facts about the tournament –

  1. The Hero Women’s India Open 2016 will tee off next week at the picturesque DLF Golf and Country Club, Gurgaon. Some of the best international golfers and Indian stars will be on the course from 7th to 13th November 2016.
  2. The Women’s Indian Open is in the 10th year. Now, HWIO 2016 is being played for a prize money of US $400,000.
  3. The event is co-sanctioned by the Ladies European Tour (LET) and the Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI)
  4. 114 competitors from 30 countries (as on 5th Nov 2016) are playing for prestigious trophy and a handsome cheque – the biggest ever prize money pool for women’s golf in India. The winner will walk away with a USD60,000 cheque.
  5. LPGA star and world number 40 (as on 5th Nov 2016), Brittany Lincicome will be seen in action for the first time in India
  6. Olympian Aditi Ashok to play her first LET event in India. The rookie golfer has been in great form recently, having claimed four straight top ten finishes on the LET.
  7. The tournament will be played at the DLF Golf and Country Club, India’s only Gary Player course, located in Gurgaon.
  8. Emily Pedersen will be back to defend her title at the Hero Women’s Indian Open ‘16
  9. The highly competitive field also includes other LET players Gwladys Nocera (Winner – Hero Women’s Indian Open 2014 and 14 LET victories), Beth Allen (currently second on the LET OOM 2016 and winner of the 2015 ISPS Handa Ladies European Masters) and Isabelle Boineau (#4 – LET OOM 2016 and winner of the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open 2016).
  10. The cut will be at 60 and ties at the end of the second round on Saturday. Indian fans will be hoping to see Aditi Ashok and Vani Kapoor play well next week.
