Feb 15, 2017: Rashid Khan has been marked for success very early in his professional career. After a great start, Rashid hit a wall as he dealt with issues related to inconsistency and aspects of the mind. His recent success in Dubai, where he finished inside the top 20 points to a healthy bounce back for the young golfer.

In this special feature, Golfing Indian looks at some interesting facts about Rashid Khan’s young and blossoming career.

    1. Rashid was introduced to golf by his uncle at the age of 9. “At that age, I don’t even know what golf was,” submits the humble golfer.
    2. Rashid grew up as a player with the support of his uncle Mr. Mohd Maqbool Khan (a former professional golfer), who was attached to the Delhi Golf Club.
    3. Rashid signed up his first Junior Training Program at the Delhi Golf Course in 1999. And finished 12th in his first Junior Tournament in Calcutta.
    4. Rashid got a first taste of victory when he won All-India Junior Championship in Bengaluru, 2006.
    5. A year later the Delhi golfer won the Faldo Series Asia in 2007 and followed with another in 2009 to underline his promise.
    6. As an amateur Rashid represented Indian team twice
      •  Eisenhower Trophy (2008)
      • Asian Games (2010)
    7. Khan turned pro in the Year 2010 and started playing the PGTI TOUR in 2011. And he has won seven times so far on the PGTI TOUR.
    8. Both his Asian Tour victories came in 2014 – the SAIL SBI Open in India and the Chiangmai Golf Classic in Thailand.
    9. Rashid was fourth on the PGTI Order of Merit in 2011; second in 2012; first in 2013; fourth again in 2014 and winner again in 2016.
    10. Rashid considers Tiger Woods as his hero in golf and hope to play with the same calm and composure as the ace golfer.
