Tournament of Champions at Maui

The PGA

January 2,2013: The PGA’s first golf tournament of the 2014 calendar year Tournament of Champions takes off in Hawaii when 30 winners from 2013 tee it up this week on the Plantation Course at Kapalua, Maui.

The four-day Hyundai Tournament of Champions will run Thursday through Sunday.

The first full-field tournament of the new year, the Sony Open in Hawaii, will be held the following week at Waialae Country Club on Oahu.

The Hyundai field will include two winners of major tournaments in 2013: Adam Scott (The Masters) and Jason Dufner (PGA Championship) and Rookie of the Year Jordan Spieth. However, notable skippers of the event this year include Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and  Henrik Stenson.

The TOC includes a full field purse, $5.7 million, for a 30-player event. So, the player who finishes last in Maui still walks away with roughly $60,000. Not bad for a trip to Hawaii!

The Hyundai Tournament of Champions is held during the first week of January and, since 1999, has been played over the Plantation Course at the Kapalua Resort near Lahaina on the island of Maui in Hawaii. Founded as the Tournament of Champions in 1953, the field is restricted to golfers who won a tournament on the tour during the previous season.
