That Mauritius is betting big on golf has been apparent but this isn’t just a flavour of the season. It’s much more than that. Francois Arnaud who is the President of the MTPA has his goals squarely cut out. He wants to promote the destination for golf to Indians and the rest of Asian region.

Q. What’s your objective and why do you wish to promote Mauritius as a golf destination.
A. Objective of our government is to make Mauritius the biggest golf destination in the Indian ocean. Additionally we want to encourage tourist traffic all year round. India will play an important role as we believe Oct-March is a period when overall tourism is on a high but March-Sept when Indians have their vacations, is a period when typically Mauritius sees less traffic from Europe. This is a perfect time to engage with Indian golf tourists

Q. Your country has many golf courses – what are the number we are talking of?
A. We have seven courses and an eighth one is already underway. We have tremendous opportunity to grow our golf traffic given the spectacular services we have to offer along with tourism oriented approach, some great views, hi quality services and more.

Q. Why do you play golf?
A. Golf is a great enabler and we play golf because it allows us to network. Everything in the sport is about connectivity and networking and gives an opportunity to people from varied backgrounds to get together and enjoy a game.

Q. What’s your vision?
A. I want to make Mauritius a lifestyle destination. It’s growing strong and our mission is to make it known to the world beyond just its beaches. We have some great stories, views and history. We have the world’s second oldest turf club, some great properties, villas and sporting activities to offer
