June 08, 2016: Make it three out of six. Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the US Open at Oakmont. Woods also missed the US Open in 2011 and 2014 first due to injuries to his knee and the second time due to a back surgery. It is understood from unconfirmed reports that Woods’ rehabilitation from his two back surgeries last year hasn’t been progressing at the desired pace.

It is believed Woods has consulted several medical practitioners but has not experienced the improvement in fitness needed to play competitive golf.

“While I continue to work hard on getting healthy, I am not physically ready to play in this year’s U.S. Open and the Quicken Loans National,” said Woods in a statement released on his website. “I am making progress, but I’m not yet ready for tournament competition.

“I want to thank everyone for their continued support. The positive texts, emails and calls I have received have been incredible,” said Woods. “I want to wish Mike Davis, Diana Murphy, the USGA, the players and everyone at Oakmont a very successful week.”

“I will be hosting and attending my foundation’s tournament, the Quicken Loans National, at Congressional,” added Woods. “It’s the 10th year of our tournament, and we continue to support the community, the military and the programs of the Tiger Woods Foundation.”

Woods has not played competitively since finishing T10 at the Wyndham Championship in August last year. He underwent a first surgery in September before going under the blade again in October.

Qualifying to the US Open closed before Woods intimated about his withdrawal. The field at the US Open is 156, with 149 competitors have been decided.
William McGirt also joined the field when he jumped to 44th on the OWGR, with his victory at the Memorial Tournament last week.

The PGA TOUR will hope to see Tiger now at the Greenbrier Classic starting on 07 July.
