Jamshedpur, October 9: Uttar Pradesh ‘A’ rode on Simarjeet Singh and Samarth Dwivedi’s scintillating six-under par rounds to all but seal the team event of the Tata Steel Inter State Golf Championship 2014 being played at the Par – 71 Golmuri Golf Course here.
Overnight co-leader Udayan Mane matched them stroke for stroke to bring in a card of six-under par 65 himself and helped Karnataka ‘A’ into second place along with Jaibir Singh’s five-under par 66, eleven strokes behind the leaders. Mane, however, managed to maintain his position at the top of the individual leaderboard as he led the two U. P. ‘A’ lads by two strokes with a gross score of thirteen under par 200.
Haryana ‘B’s Anant Singh Ahlawat carded a four-under par 67 for the day to ove into tied fourth place a further five strokes behind at six-under par 207 alongside
Aman Raj who missed a lot of short putts on his way to a round of one-under par 70. Vinay Kumar Yadav is a further stroke behind followed by a quartet of players at four-under par 209.
Of the leaders, Samarth had a brilliant start with consecutive birdies on the opening two holes and followed them up by gaining strokes on the 5th, 7th and 9th holes to go out level with Udayan, who began with a bogey but made four straight birdies from the 2nd to the 5th holes. Udayan grabbed back the lead on the 12th hole on which he made birdie whereas Samarth dropped a stroke. After that both had two birdies each as they came in with cards of 65 for the day.
Samarth, who won the Tata Steel Southern India Amateur earlier this year said, “I am happy with my round but was even more delighted to hear Simar Sir had carded a 65 as well which means the team event is ours to lose now.” He added, “There are individual points to play for over the next 18 holes so targeting to get the maximum.”
