March 23,2017: Vani Kapoor stretched her lead to seven shots after an eventful second day at the Poona Club. The sixth leg of the WGAI Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour is all set for another Vani victory, barring any major letdown on Friday. Amandeep Drall is lying second at seven over 149, with Sharmila Nicollet close behind at 151 after 36 holes.

Gaurika Bishnoi and Gursimar Badwal dropped into a tie for fourth after posting 78 in the second round in Pune. The two girls have similar scores of 75 and 78 from their efforts in the tournament.

Vani made bogeys at the third and fifth holes but recovered to even before making the turn. The Delhi golfer scored birdies at the 6thand 9th holes to get past the front nine in 35 strokes.

Vani extended her blemish-less streak to eleven before conceding bogeys on the final two holes, signing off with her card reading one over 72.

Amandeep Drall collected three birdies on her trek around the course. But she also endured four bogeys and a double at the 16th hole to account for a 74.

Sharmila Nicollet was six over through seven holes, including a painful triple at the par-4 5th hole. But she made remarkable turnaround from there – shooting three birdies as she coasted to the finish without adding to the damage.

Sharmila needed just 34 strokes for her back nine, the only golfer on the day to dip under par on either side of the course.

Saaniya Sharma shot a 77 to add to her first round 80. She is lying tied in sixth place with Mehar Atwal. The latter produced two late birdies to post a 78 in the second round.

Shweta Galande and Trisha Sunil shot 80 each for a 36 hole score of 158. Ayesha Kapur and Siddhi Kapoor rounded off the top ten a further stroke behind.

A disciplined round from Vani tomorrow should help clinch yet another victory on the HWPGT.
