Oct 24, 2017: Vani Kapoor, who made a return to the Hero WPGT after skipping the last four events, took the first day lead with a round of 75 at the challenging Gary Player layout at the DLF Golf and Country Resort in the first round of the 14th leg of the domestic Tour.
Vani, who has won three of her five previous starts on the domestic Tour, made a modest start in tough scoring conditions. On a day when scoring was not easy, Vani had just one birdie on 16th. She bogeyed the third, double bogeyed the 11th and after yet another bogey on 14th, she was four-over before finding her only birdie of the day on 16th.
Vani is one shot clear of the second placed Amandeep Drall (76). However, Amandeep had as many as four birdies against three bogeys in the first four holes and a triple on the demanding Par-4 11th hole. She birdied 12th and 13th but bogeyed 14th and 15th. She closed the day with a birdie on 18th.
Saaniya Sharma and Tvesa Malik alongside amateur Pranavi Urs were tied for third at five-over 77 each. Gursimar Badwal, Afshan Fatima and amateur Ananya Barthakur shot 78 each in Tied-6th place.
The tournament serves as a good tune-up to the upcoming Hero Women’s Indian Open, which will be held here at the DLF in two weeks time.
In the second round, Vani will play with Amandeep and Saaniya in the lead group, while Gursimar, Tvesa and amateur Pranavi will go out in the second last group.
