25 June 2021: Australian Wade Ormsby set the clubhouse target of seven under par at the BMW International Open as play at round one in Munich was suspended due to lightning in the area. Gaganjeet Bhullar made 77 in the opening round.

The 41-year-old carded a flawless round of 65 at Golfclub München Eichenried with three other golfers yet to complete their first rounds joining him on that number.

“I had a nice start. Holed a few putts. I have been swinging pretty good the last week and a half but the putter hasn’t been cooperating, but it did today, so that’s how you can shoot those numbers.

“I was definitely upside down yesterday. I got a few hours sleep last night, so I feel much better today but yesterday I thought I was going to be in trouble for the week but somehow it sorted itself out.

“I guess you have to reset a little bit. Every golf course is different in each way but the greens are pure here, and soft, that is the biggest different between this week and last week. Obviously the rough is not as bad, but I knew I was hitting it good, so I just had to be a bit more direct at flags, a bit more aggressive I guess, and hole some putts to make some birdies.”

England’s Sam Horsfield and Masahiro Kawamura of Japan have just one hole left to play when they return on Friday morning, but Spaniard Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez is through just 12 holes and will restart on the par four 13th.

Five players share fifth place on six under par, including two-time BMW International Open champion Pablo Larrazábal of Spain. The 38-year-old won this event for the first time in 2011, defeating countryman Sergio Garcia in a play-off, and then again in 2015, finishing one stroke ahead of Henrik Stenson.

“One of the best (rounds I’ve played here). I played very solid, I hit the ball very nice. I gave myself a lot of birdie chances. I’m very happy, always when you go bogey free is nice. It doesn’t matter where you are, it’s always beautiful.

“I had a couple of bogey chances, we can say. 14, I pulled my six iron into the bunker. I chipped it to eight feet and made the putt. That’s the closest I was to a bogey. I played very solid. This is the way we want to keep going. This is the way we want to play the game and I’m happy for that.”

Joining Larrazábal on six under par are Andrew Johnston of England, Niall Kearney of Ireland, Australia’s Min Woo Lee, and South African JC Ritchie.

Bernd Wiesberger, who recently retained his Made in HimmerLand title, is one of six in a share of tenth with the par five 18th still to play when play resumes tomorrow morning.
