July 4, 2016:  Dustin Johnson showed no signs of easing up, following through his US Open triumph with a come from behind victory at the Firestone Country Club. Jason Day was ahead by one with four to play but dissolved into a series of errors to ease the path to victory for Johnson. Anirban Lahiri played determined golf under difficult conditions to finish the week tied for 33rd place in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

Lahiri made a pair of birdies at six and seven to sniff a shot at the top 20, but he conceded shots on the back nine to slip back to even par for the round.

Anirban ended the week at five over 285 along with Charley Hoffman and Justin Thomas for a share of 33rd spot. The three men shared $76,000 and 37 Fedex Cup points for their sojourn to Ohio.

DJ had a mediocre start to his week after he made 69 and 73 in the first two rounds. The freshly minted US Open champion flew out to the Bahamas to celebrate his maiden major title and a 32nd birthday, explaining a moderate start.

But he bounced back in great style firing back-to-back 66s on a testy Firestone course to nudge his way to the top.

Overnight leaders Scott Piercy and Day were unable to consolidate on Sunday. Piercy shot an even 70 to finish second while Day dropped two spots to T3 with a two over 72 in the final round.

“This golf course is playing so tough, it’s not like I need to go out and shoot 63,” Johnson said. “You just try to hit it in the fairway, get it on the green and try to make some putts. I knew if I shot 4 or 5 under I’d have a chance.”

Jordan Spieth shot a final round 67 to gain seven spots into T3. Matt Kuchar and Kevin Chappell were the other two men tied with Spieth and Day at 277.

Zach Johnson fired a sensational 65 on Sunday, leaping twenty spots to tie for tenth place. Rickie Fowler, Branden Grace and Adam Scott were all keeping Zach company at an even 280.
