Tiger Woods remained firmly in contention at the Wyndham Championship

August 23, 2015: Tiger Woods continued his impressive run at the Wyndham Championship. The ace golfer showed he can deal with the pressure of needing a win this week to qualify for the FedexCup playoffs with a poised 2-under 68 in the third round of the tournament. Overnight leader Tom Hoge melted into the crowd with a 72, paving the way for Jason Gore to gain a two shot lead with a brilliant 62 on Saturday.

Woods is in a three way tie for second with Jonas Blixt and Scott Brown. As many as five golfers were perched right behind in a group that includes Webb Simpson, Paul Casey and Brandt Snedeker, just one shot back at 12-under 198.

With as many as twenty golfers lying with a five shot range, Sunday could turn out to be a mega spectacle on a course that is offering some really low scores.

Woods was three under through 17 holes on Saturday, before seeing his ball lip out on the 18th hole. That was a par putt he missed from six feet, ending a sequence of 28 straight holes without a bogey.

Gore, a good friend of Woods, suffered just once during a day of prolific golf. His only blemish came at the par-4 second hole, where he made a bogey.

Gore is lying 166th in the Fedex rankings, which means he is also in contention for a spot at the FedexCup, when he tees off in the final group on Sunday.

The 41 year old was spared teeing off with Woods, when the 14 time major winner bogeyed the final hole. Gore has known Tiger since they were twelve, but it may have been one day when he might be happy to avoid his company as he chases his own dream.

“I think it’s awesome to see him playing well again, to see him playing like Tiger Woods,” said Gore, “because that’s what we all want to see.”

Meanwhile, Woods is seeking to win for the first time since the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in 2013. “The putter just felt really good. My pace, I felt like I could be aggressive,” Woods said. “I took a few runs at putts and ripped them past the hole, but I never felt like I was going to miss any of them. I took a rip at them. Some I made, some I didn’t.”
