April 13, 2018: Yashas Chandra is a real roll this week. The young amateur shot a third straight under par round at the Eagleton Resort to stay firmly in control of the IGU Rotary Karnataka Amateur Golf Championship. Chandra has a five stroke lead over Kanishka Sinha.
In the women’s event, Ridhima Dilawari fired a superb 66 to gain a two stroke advantage over Sifat Alag. Rhea Purvi Saravanan and Tanirika Singh were locked in the lead in the girls Category A competition.
Pranavi Urs was ahead by one on Anika Verma in the girls Category B event.
Chandra has impressed with his steady efforts this week. Scores of 68, 69 & 69 in the three rounds so far have allowed the young man from Mysuru stay miles ahead of his competitors this week.
Divesh Rana did the star turn on Thursday with a sensational 67, the low round of the day. Divesh moved up to T15. Shravan Desai shot 68 to climb into 11th place ahead of the final round on Friday.
Kanishka, the boy from Jammu & Kashmir also made 69 to remain one in front of Anirudh K (70) of Telangana and Yuvraj Singh (73) of Punjab.
Basavaraju GN and Harimohan Singh are tied in fifth at 213.
Ridhima was three back after a first round 76, trailing from Sifat Alag. But the promising young golfer dug deep for one of the best rounds of golf this week to gain a two stroke advantage over the field.
Rhea shot 74, following on a first round 68 to remain in charge in the category A event. Tanirika Singh shot the only under par round of the day, her second straight to remain within striking distance for a final round assault. She is the only golfer to have shot under par in both the rounds.
Jahanvi Bakshi was the only other golfer in the category to shoot an even 72. All the golfers besides Tanirika and Jahanvi shot over par on Thursday.
