August 26, 2014: Aditi Ashok and Feroz Garewal finished their Youth Olympics Mixed Team event at 21st place. Duo slipped further low after their disastrous final round performance to end at 9 over par at Zhongshan International Golf Club in China.

After giving impressive start with an opening round of 66, which placed them at 9th position, 5 strokes behind leaders Lee Soyoung and Youm Eun Ho of Korea, Indians failed to revive their chances further up. The Indians managed to save their second round at the same position with a par round.

On the final day, still 8 shots behind the leaders John Paul Axelsen and Emily Kristine Pedersen, Indians began with bogeys to slip out of top 10 and could not save par. Aditi Ashok was 5 over through 15 while Feroz Garewal dug deep for par despite being 2 over a few holes earlier. The Indian duo gave up 4 strokes on last 3 holes to end up with an unimpressive 9 over par 153 on the final day.

Indian team signed off  at 21st position in the final rankings with a cumulative total of 291, 3 over for the tournament.

While the gold spot was shared by Sweden’s Marcus Kinhult and Linnea Strom of Sweden and Lee Soyoung/Youm Eun Ho of Korea with 272. Renato Paratore and Virginia Elena Carta of Italy won bronze, they closed two strokes behind the leaders.

The Youth Olympic Games marks golf’s return to the stable of Olympic sports. Golf was an Olympic sport in only two Games – 1900 and 1904 – and in 2009, the International Olympic Committee decided to reinstate the sport for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
