August 30, 2014: A brilliant 66 from SSP Chowrasia saw the Indian work his way back at the 71deg Open DÍtalia in Turin, Chowrasia enjoyed an error free third round that included six birdies to climb up the order. Shiv Kapur followed the example of his compatriot to make 68 and jump into the top 40. Hennie Otto held steadily to his two shot lead at 16-under, ahead of Richie Ramsay who sprung into contention with a solid 68.

The Kolkata golfer took advantage of some benign conditions at the Circolo Golf Torino – La Mandria to produce one of the best rounds of his season so far. Chowrasia made back to back birdies just at the turn for a 33 at the halfway mark in the third round. He continued to capitalise on his good vein of form, adding birdies at 12, 13 and 15 to position himself in a good spot for Sunday’s final round.

Kapur also got off to a strong start, making birdies on the first two holes. A birdie at the seventh was followed by a bogey at the 8th as he took the turn in 34 shots. He leapt up to 5-under with a hat-trick of birdies from the 10th hole, but Kapur made five at the par-4 18th hole to surrender one back to the course and settle for a 68.

Stephen Gallacher, the man in the race for a Ryder Cup berth, held on to hope. The Scot made 69 to get to 10-under through three rounds. With two holes left to play for the final groups, Bernd Wiesberger failed to add to his overnight score of 12-under as he was even par for the day. Ramsay, like Chowrasia, produced a blemishless effort to sign on a 66 that helped him lie second behind Otto.

Otto survived two bogeys and a double bogey at the par-5 ninth hole to remain in the lead with a two shot advantage. The final groups had completed 16 holes of play at the time of this report. Andy Sullivan also made a 66, the best score in this round, to jump up 46 spots to T11.
