October 02, 2014: The Eagleburg Masters is all set for a thrilling climax with Rashid Khan soaring to an eagle on the penultimate hole to snatch a two shot lead over C Muniyappa. Intriguingly, it was Muniyappa who challenged Khan by making an eagle at the same hole to take a share of the lead. But Khan responded in style to produce one of his own at the same hole to snatch back the lead going into the final round on Friday.

Local lad Chikkarangappa had a miserable day after making a bunch of bogeys on the return stretch. Chikka had a share of the lead going into the third round, but four bogeys – two on either side, left him signing on an even par 72 to drop him to nine under 207.

Khan has control of the lead at 16-under 200, after an impressive effort in the third round. He built his round with some steady golf, taking away two birdies on the front nine to turn around with a score of 34 for the day. He got on a hot streak from there – birdie at the 10th, another at the 12th and a fifth for the round at the par-3 14th hole enabled him stay in front.

But Muniyappa was in hot pursuit. He had four birdies on his card by the 15th hole and jumped right next to Rashid with a brilliant eagle at the 17th hole. Khan though was up for it, emulating Muniyappa with a two on the par-4 17th hole to retake his position at the top of the leaderboard. Both Muniyappa (69-67-66) and Rashid (68-67-65) have gotten progressively better this week promising an interesting finish tomorrow.

Sandhu managed to retain solo third despite making three bogeys on the final stretch. He was saved a further slide down after making four birdies and an eagle at the par-5 7th hole.
