August 31, 2014: In a remarkable turnaround, Shiv Kapur made a brilliant 68 in the final round of the 71° Open D’Italia to gain twenty spots and finish inside the top 20. Kapur’s effort, coming behind a 73-69-68, in the previous three rounds helped him make a strong case for perhaps his best finish this season. Shiv was lying T13 at the time of publishing this report, with several groups still on the course. Meanwhile, SSP Chowrasia, still on the course was having a poor round – one over through 14 holes. Hennie Otto was holding on to his lead at 18-under, but David Howell and Stephen Gallacher had narrowed the margin to one with about four or five holes left to play.

The 181st ranked Kapur has been in good nick recently, having finished T18 at the Alstom Open de France. The Delhi golfer also finished inside the top 30 at both the Scottish Open and Made in Denmark tournaments. Kapur got off the blocks with a birdie at the third hole but gave it straight back as he suffered a five at the par-4 fourth hole.

Shiv gathered momentum with back to back birdies at the 7th and 8th as he set about rising up the leader board. Kapur made two more birdies on the back nine as he completed his round with an overall score of 10-under 278 at the Circolo Golf Torino – La Mandria. The Indian is set to take home a five digit return besides valuable points for making his best score this season.

Chowrasia though, was having a difficult final round. The Kolkata golfer made three bogeys on his outward nine, needing 38 to make the turn. After making five pars and a birdie, he was left with three holes to play in the final round of the European Tour event.
