Anirban Lahiri is in good form

He has been insisting that the break from coronavirus helped reboot his game. Anirban Lahiri presented substantive evidence of it with a forceful 65 in the second round of the Safeway Open. At the top of the leaderboard, Sam Burns matched Anirban to take a two-stroke advantage over Harry Higgs, who made an eagle of 18th for his 62. At 12-under Cameron Percy is lying in third place through 36 holes.

On the heels of a 74 in the opening round, Anirban was spotless on Friday as he coasted him to a seven-under effort, climbing 92 spots to T37.

Lahiri is ten strokes off the pace, but if he holds his form into the weekend, we could see him garner his best finish since the Mayakoba Classic last year, where he finished T10. Anirban made 14 of 18 greens in regulation and may have easily finished with a 64 – but he slid past the cup on the 18th with a good birdie putt.

The first birdie of the day came at the 436-yard par-4 first hole, when Anirban made a brilliant putt from 19-feet. Even though he flew slightly right on the fourth hole, Anirban shot a perfect 123 yard approach to secure his second birdie.

Yesterday, Shubhankar Sharma made an albatross on the par-5 17th hole in the Portugal Masters. Anirban nearly emulated his compatriot when he left his approach on the 538-yard par-5 fifth hole inches short.

Anirban enjoyed another good hole, when he left just four feet for birdie on the par-4 eighth hole. At the 557-yard par-5 ninth, he worked off a solid drive, before chipping well inside ten feet, making the turn on another birdie.

The longest putt for Anirban came at the 182-yard par-3 11th. He sank a brilliant putt from 26 feet to go six-under for the day. Lahiri move to seven-under at the 571-yard par-5 16th hole. He shot a briliant 249 yards approach to just 5 feet to secure yet another birdie.
