03 July 2019: A spirit of undying faith and resilience underlines Indian golf and its protagonists. No one embodies this better than our sage legends – Jeev Milkha Singh and Arjun Atwal. Despite their physical struggles with a shaky back, neither man has ever given an inch to father time, continuing to engage a grim battle to hunt for success. The latest chapter in their endearing story has been scripted by Arjun, who shot a sensational 62 to barge into the PGA TOUR’s 3M Open this week.

It was an amazing round of golf from Arjun, who soared to the top of the leaderboard with eight birdies and an eagle at the Victory Links Golf Club in Minnesota.

Arjun was four-under on his first nine, starting on the 10th tee and five-under on the way home as he pushed Mark Baldwin, who shot nine birdies into the second place. The Indian was impeccable on the par-5 holes, making three birdies and an eagle on the 560 yards 16th hole. Baldwin, Brian Dwyer and Nyasha Mauchaza were the other three to qualify into the 3M Open.

Incidentally, Arjun also made his way into the 2010 Wyndham Championship before winning it to become the lone Indian with a victory on the PGA TOUR.

Arjun sank a 60-foot eagle putt on his seventh hole, for one of the big highlights of the day. That was part of a six-hole stretch where he went 7-under. His feat at Wyndham in 2010 remained a one-off until Corey Connors emulated the feat at the Valero Texas Open earlier this season.

The 3M Open will be his fourth PGA TOUR start this season. Atwal will be among the afternoon starters in the group ahead of Anirban Lahiri. Arjun will start with Wyndham Clark and Alex Cejka off the first tee. Anirban will go off the tenth with Dominic Bozzelli and Kelly Kraft.
