January 28, 2015: A glittering list of stars is lining the Dubai desert this week for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Rory McIlroy headlines a stellar field of golfers that includes Martin Kaymer and double defending champion Stephen Gallacher. Among the brilliant field are also two of our own. Shiv Kapur and Jeev Milkha Singh are continuing their trek through the sands, rubbing shoulders with the best and aiming to leave a trail of their own. The two men finished inside the top 40 at the Qatar Masters and a similar outcome this week would be an agreeable result given the depth at Dubai.

Jeev seems to have put the worst behind him. After suffering a forgettable 2014, the Chandigarh golfer will sure hope that he can pull his game together and enjoy a revival this season. He took a big stride in this direction with a steady effort in Qatar that yielded him 70-70-73-70 and a tied 38th place. Jeev will also be served well by the 68 he made in the first round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship earlier this month.

The 43 year old has some climbing to do this season. He has slipped below 1000 in the Official World Golf Rankings and for a man that prides himself over his golf, he must be surely hurting deep within. Jeev will be looking to consolidate on his early season form and make the most of it with a good showing at the Emirates Golf Club this week.

On the other hand Shiv Kapur has been enjoying a positive run, till he suffered a blip in Abu Dhabi where he missed the cut. Kapur’s recent high came at the HongKong Open where he finished T20 last September. He seemed to have steadied his boat with a T38 finish at the Qatar Masters last week. The 240th ranked golfer will look to sustain and improve his good run this week in Dubai.
