Aditi Ashok shoots 71 to take the lead in the Thailand Amateur Championship

India’s Aditi Ashok who is through first nine holes at the Ladies European Tour event Hero Womens Indian Open is the dark horse this tournament. She picked a birdie on the par five 8th hole to be one under par. Ashok is playing what is being termed as a challenging course – the redesigned state of the art DLF Golf & Country Club.

The amateur has been picking global accolades for her game of late. The teen sensation created history by becoming the first Indian to top the qualifiers for the $2-million Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia and securing her first Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) start in Kuala Lumpur late September.

There are high expectations from Aditi, who first grabbed attention as a 14-year-old at the 2011 Queen’s Sirikit Cup and finished eighth at the 2012 Women’s Indian Open. Aditi has been in red-hot form this year, becoming the first Asian to bag the title of the St Rule Trophy and the Lawson Trophy at St Andrews, Scotland. Earlier this year, she also became the first Indian to win the Ladies British Amateur Open Stroke Play Championship and the 81st Singha Thailand Amateur. Aditi, who finished 14th at last year’s Women’s Indian Open, is entering this edition with a strong international winning record and will be one of the title contenders to watch out for.
