June 03, 2016: Anirban Lahiri got off to a sedate start, shooting two under 70 at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. Dustin Johnson fired a 64 to get to the top of the leaderboard, one stroke ahead of Brendan Steele and two in front of Jason Day. Lahiri finished T6 at the Colonial last week.
Starting on the back nine, Anirban went two under very early in his round. He made birdies at the 12th and 14th to get off to a positive start.

A bogey at the 18th meant he made the turn in 35 strokes. Four straight pars on his second nine was made better when Anirban struck two birdies in three holes (at 5 & 7).

At the par-4 ninth – Lahiri navigated from the left intermediate to the right, before needing a third shot to get on the green. He two putted from there to make the second bogey of the round.

Johnson made ten birdies in an imposing round on Thursday. The front nine took just 31 strokes, with Johnson making a hat-trick of birdies from the first and seventh holes.

After a brief lull, Johnson added four straight birdies from the 12th to surge to the top of the charts. A bogey on either side of his run were the only blemishes in an otherwise spectacular effort.

Steele made a colourful start to his campaign. He survived a bogey at the tenth and a double bogey at the par-4 14th hole to settle just one behind Johnson. His 65 contained eight birdies and an eagle at the par-4 18th hole.

Jordan Spieth also made a 70, like Anirban. Spieth is coming off a solid victory at the Colonial, making five birdies and three bogeys in his round.
Jason Day shot an elegant eagle at the par-5 15th hole, going on to make a fine 66, just two strokes off the pace.
