September 7, 2013. India’s leading light, Anirban Lahiri faded as Saturday progressed at Omega European Masters in Crans Montana. Lahiri is tied 32 along with compatriots Shiv Kapur and Gaganjeet Bhullar at the finish of third round.

Scotsman, Craig Lee was on course to strike the first sub-60 round in the history of The European Tour at the Omega European Masters.

Lee in an exemplary act birdied eight times on the front nine, his streak only ended by a par on seven, to shine at the top of the leader board. He picked up a further shot at ten and, following a par at the next, looked in good shape to make history.

“(It was) comfortably my best round ever. Even as an amateur or in a bounce game, I’ve never managed to get to double figures.

“So this is my best round by far. You just try to focus on each shot you play though. When you hit it and it is executed properly and you see it flying down the pin, it is pretty special,” Lee said.

Lee was to pay the price for a poor tee shot on 11 and ultimately holed a ten footer to escape with bogey. That putt could well prove crucial, though.

Indeed, Lee – following a stunning approach to the par three next – was back at nine under for the round through 13, needing to pick up three further shots to achieve the ultimate individual feat.

While Thomas Bjorn, who once again showed great consistency at Crans-sur-Sierre, closely followed the leader and was tied 2 at the finish of day’s game.

Lee’s performance overshadowed all his efforts in round three but would ultimately have more bearing on the overall tournament.

Though, it is certain that the three Indians will play Sunday’s final round at picturesque Crans course, however they may not be in a position to make up to the expectations.
