Arjun Atwal ends four year title drought with Dubai Open win

May 26, 2015. Dubai Open Champion Arjun Atwal is pleased with the impressive performance of Indians on global tours. He sees players like Anirban Lahiri, Rashid Khan, Chawrasia and himself keeping the Asian story strong with wins every few years. Atwal, who was the first Indian to win on the PGA Tour, shares his views on how more tri-sanctioned events can encourage golfers and improve their game. Atwal also reflects on the need to quickly expand golf infrastructure giving Indians an opportunity to play more and play better.

 

 

Arjun made history by becoming the first Indian golfer to win on the US PGA Tour at the 2010 Wyndham Championship. He was also the first Monday qualifier to win a tournament in 24 years in the US. His victory secured him an invitation to the 2011 Masters Tournament, making him only the second Indian after Jeev Milkha Singh to play in the year’s first Major at Augusta National. After a four-year lapse, Arjun returned to the winner’s circle with a victory at the Dubai Open, saying winning felt even better that his US triumph due to the uncertainty in his career following injuries.
